Celtic Key Pattern - Painted Frame

Well our Celtic Group are starting with Key Patterns.. They're supposedly all straight lines. I have no idea if I'm doing it right or not... but I love the way it turned out. Now to find a quote to calligraph inside the frame.

size:7.5"h x 6"w

On Canson Mixed Media paper drew out the key design. See below for the steps I took. Since it's basically all straight lines I drew a funky "S" shape. Then put a border around the shape. Transferred the idea to graph paper... although that didn't really help so I just winged it... then cut it out of cardstock and used it as my guide.

I then inked it with a ZIG Writer, added the inner border with a Juice Up pen and water colored my "S" shapes using (WN Cad Yel, Winsor Blue Red and Holbien Opera) blending the paints with water to merge them. Then inked the black areas with a Pentel Brush Pen.

Doodled and then colored with Koi Calligraphy Brush Pens, adding a touch of gold with a Posca gold metallic .7mm bullet shaped pen. Then added the outer petals. BVCG Play Day - Mar 16/24

Since I didn't have any direction I wanted to go in... I just wrote and doodled what crossed my mind... Since I had brought one of my glass pens with me I started with that.

Except for the alphabet piece done on Bee Super Deluxe paper, the rest were done on our Genoa Bond practice paper.

As written testing my glass pen using Sumi ink and then using gouache. Since I'm notorious for spell or leaving letters out... this was no different. Forgot the "u" in gouache so added it under the handle of the "a" and repeated with the "h" to make it like it all belonged...
Then was doodling the bottom area and testing another nib and then felt like writing the word "Happiness"

Black ZIG calligraphy 3.0 pen

continuing with the Black ZIG calligraphy 3.0 pen

Then I started with that curvy line, creating it on each turn of the paper. I love the look of this. Put initials in them and some colored pencil.

Then I was playing with gouache trying to get the effect that Loredana Zega does - nope didn't work but still had paint on my brush so created the linear design. Then wrote the funky alphabet and the text below... and of course another mistake... yourself should be one word but put the "e" after the "r" instead of the "s"... so created a little doodle... Ha Ha

CCG - Carrie Imai - Akim Cursive

This was from a 1.5 hour ZOOM class hosted by the Colorado Calligraphy Guild on March 13, 2024. I wasn't able to attend so watched the replay.
After practicing the basic letterforms Carrie had us do a few pieces with multiple words.
I used a glass pen for the 1st 2 and for the bottom 2 a Speedball C-2 nib all with Ecoline ink.
On the 3rd words, I added a shadow line with a Juice Up pen and on the bottom image graphite shading and paper stump. I like the bottom one...

I liked the top one so played with it - see below for details.

Artistic Endeavors
size: 6"w x 1.75"h
On Canson mixed Media paper wrote out the words using the glass pens and 3 colors of Ecoline ink (Sky Blue - Cyan, Magenta and Deep Yellow) allowing the ink to merge with the previous color.
Below you can see one of the word pieces and then working my way down to full black background using a Zig Writer.

Pic 1) Original
Pic 2) Outlined
Pic 3) Partial black background (not sure if I wanted to stop here...
Pic 4) finished piece

I kinda like all 4 variations. I guess it's my mood that will choose each time I look at this pic...

Turkish Map Fold - Ha Ha Ha

size: 3"w x 6"h
The challenge for our next Art Of The Fold Group (April 2024) had us making Turkish Map Fold. I had these funnies I created a little while back and wasn't sure which style booklet to put them in... problem solved...

All the pages were done on gelli prints made on Columbia Mills LBS End paper using various styles of calligraphy.

Booklet made with an orangey/tan colored cardstock. I adhered covers to each of the Turkish Map folds and then adhered them together and to the cover. Added some orangey gauze ribbon and gelli print covering. Wrote out the words Ha Ha Ha with a Zig Writer.

Since I put the title on the backside again... I added the words "back side" under the title. ROFL. Then put the title on the right side.

Don't ask how many times I do something like this...  Too many times to remember...

"E" Glass Pen

Since I've been seeing Sachinspiration using a glass pen, I said to myself I need to pull out one of mine. I've got about 5 of them in various colored flowers. I used them once when I got them and they've been sitting in one of my drawers for YEARS... It works well. I used the ink that came with it.

They're really beautiful pens and I should use them more often!!!

Interlocking Accordion - Dreams

The challenge for our next Art Of The Fold Group had us making Interlocking Accordions... I finally made one...
size: 2"w x 6"h
I decided to use beige Elephant Hide paper for the main structure and one of my gelli prints for the interlocking page.

Used a Kuretaki black 3.0 calligraphy pen for the cover and a 3.0 Parallel pen with D'Atramentis Pearlescent ink "Magenta Red - Gold" for the inside text. It bled a touch on the 1st letter...and you can't see the gold sheen on the letters... c'est la vie...

Jacob's Ladder - My Friend

Thought I'd do a 2nd Jacob's Ladder piece for our next Art Of The Fold Group challenge. So this one I'm using a different tutorial, this time from TV Weekly I like it a lot better and it was better presented.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SwKHP0VyVA
size: 3"sq x .5"h
They made this one from thicker cardstock.

I decided to use Staples 110# white cardstock. I adhered a piece of gold metallic cardstock to it, then sandwiched my ribbons between this double layer and a top layer of the 110# cardstock. Nice and thick... and sturdy. My ribbons don't move around either... When done I thought I'd add some text... Then I decided to make a box for it. I`m totally happy...

Words:
Just in case you have forgotten today
You matter You are loved
You are worthy You are magical
You are my friend.
